Working Principle of High-speed Metallographic Cutting Machine

 

Metallographic cutting machine generally refers to a special equipment for sample cutting equipped with a grinding wheel cutting blade and a circulating cooling system.

 

A standard metallographic cutting machine should have the following major functional modules, which are briefly described as follows:

 

1. Stable body, good body rigidity, precise coordination of various components, and the body must shake when the motor drives the cutting disc to rotate at high speed.

 

2. Precision spindle, the commonly used spindle speed is 2800rpm, the spindle rotation stability should be good, and there should be no shaking.

 

The cutting disc should be clamped firmly and conveniently. Because coolant needs to be added during cutting, the waterproofness of the spindle will directly affect the service life of the spindle.

 

3. Spindle drive mode, currently common ones are belt drive and spindle direct drive. The belt drive has a simple structure and is easy to assemble and adjust.

 

However, it is common that the belt has a short service life, which is troublesome for users to replace, and the transmission efficiency is low.

 

The direct drive of the spindle has high requirements for processing technology, and the spindle coupling and shock absorption methods are different. Because this structure has high transmission efficiency, low vibration, and easy maintenance, this structure is commonly used in high-end metallographic cutting machines.

 

4. Workbench. The workbench of high-end metallographic cutting machines is generally a multi-groove T-slot workbench, which is convenient for fixing different fixtures and clamping workpieces.

 

The workbench is divided into a single-layer workbench and a double-layer workbench. It is more convenient to use a double-layer workbench when sequential cutting is required or the cutting position needs to be accurately and conveniently determined.

 

5. Fixtures. The standard fixtures of general manufacturers are more suitable for the clamping of conventional specimens.

For the cutting of special-shaped parts and components, it is necessary to equip relevant fixtures in a targeted manner.

 

6. Cooling system. In order to minimize the burning of the cut surface during cutting, the metallographic cutting machine should be equipped with a cooling system.

 

The simple cutting machine is generally only equipped with a water supply valve nozzle. The standard metallographic cutting machine is equipped with a self-circulating cooling system and should be easy to maintain.

 

7. Cutting feed system. There are usually two ways of cutting feed: cutting spindle movement or cutting table movement.

 

8. Control mode: manual control, automatic control, manual and automatic control. Manual control is economical and practical when the cutting piece is small or the cutting amount is small.

 

Automatic control is generally selected for large cutting pieces or large cutting amount, and better cutting surface is required. Of course, considering the flexibility of operation, manual and automatic control is more ideal.

 

9. Safety protection system. As a cutting equipment, metallographic cutting equipment has very important safety settings.

 

Generally, there are mechanical protection, electrical protection and software protection. Mechanical protection is commonly seen in closed covers and mechanical anti-collision. Electrical protection is more overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, leakage protection, etc.

 

Automatic software should also have necessary protection. Highly intelligent metallographic cutting will have load monitoring and intelligent speed adjustment when it is automatic, which effectively prevents accidents and obtains the most effective cutting process.

 

10. Maintenance system. The commonly used maintenance system is generally equipped with a cleaning system, such as a flushing water gun. Waste residue filtration system, etc.
