Instructions for Using of Metallographic Microscopes

The following are seven steps for using a metallographic microscope:

Installation and adjustment: Make sure the microscope is installed in a dry, ventilated, dust-free, vibration-free, and corrosion-free room, and placed on a stable table or base, preferably with a shock-absorbing device.

Illumination method selection: According to the purpose of observation and sample characteristics, select the appropriate lighting method, such as bright field, dark field, polarized light or differential interference contrast (DIC).

Lens selection: Select the appropriate objective and eyepiece combination based on the required magnification.

Diaphragm adjustment: Use the aperture diaphragm to adjust the size of the incident beam and light intensity, and the field diaphragm to adjust the size of the observation field of view.

Filter application: As needed, select appropriate filters to absorb specific wavelengths of light and improve image clarity.

Image acquisition and annotation: When using software for image acquisition, a ruler should be added to the image to mark the sample size.

Image processing and analysis MetaVision Software: After collection, adjust the brightness, contrast and grayscale transformation of the image to make the image more conducive to analysis and judgment. Regularly verify the system ruler of the image analysis software to ensure accuracy.
