Commonly Used Metallographic Inspection Standards

 

Metallographic inspection standards began to actively adopt international standards in the 1980s, and it was not until 2010 that they really began to participate in the formulation and revision of international standards in this field. At present, China has led the formulation and revision of three international standards:

 

1) ISO 16574:2015 "Determination of troostite content in high carbon steel wire rod", based on my country's YB/T 169 standard, for the first time converted Chinese standards into international standards;

 

2) ISO4969:2015 "Steel Macroscopic Etching Test Method", based on my country's GB/T 226 standard, revised ISO4969:1980 and incorporated the "electrolytic corrosion method", which has the advantages of saving time and acid, easy operation, safety, and wide application range;

 

3) ISO 3887:2017 "Steel Determination of Decarburization Depth", was revised simultaneously with GB/T 224-2008; now it is the new national standard GB/T 224-2019 "Determination of Decarburization Depth of Steel", which greatly improves the accuracy of measuring the depth of decarburization.

 

The release and implementation of the above three international standards have won the recognition of experts from the same field around the world, promoted China's successful inspection methods to international sharing, and will provide strong technical support for the development of domestic and international trade and technological exchanges.
